Dear members,

We're working on arrangements for the coming year and have a couple of announcements.  Hopefully you have read the Sugarhouse Gazette, located on our website.  If not, go ahead and cue it up -- we'll wait.

Ok, here's what's new.  As you know, we did our meetings on Zoom last year, and we had a good time.  Not perfect perhaps, but good, and the best we could do under the circumstances.  We (the board) are still working on the plans for this year.  We're planning to meet in person in September, requiring masks for everyone (except when enjoying our ice cream), social distancing, and encouraging vaccination.  I know that while I'm vaccinated, I don't want to pick up anything and bring it home to my granddaughter!  We talked about meeting in the parking lot if the weather is good, but darkness could be an issue.

There has been a lot of discussion about moving everything to Zoom.  Some folks feel we should move to Zoom, while others don't like Zoom and prefer to meet in person.  So here's our attempt at a compromise.  Diane Comeau (of CaDi Corners) has kindly agreed to help us with going on FaceBook Live!  This will be whenever we are meeting in person, as an alternative for those who don't feel comfortable attending meetings in person.  We will still be using Zoom for our meetings in January and February and for our workshops.  IF we decide it's not safe for us to meet in person for any other month in general, we will be switching back to Zoom, so Facebook is planned only for our in-person meetings.  September will be a trial run, so don't expect much  :-)

Here is how it will work.  Please be patient with us, as we are still working through the details.  As soon as you have paid for your membership, you will receive a Facebook invitation to a private group.  Only folks who have paid will be able to see the live feed, which is only fair since our dues help pay for the speakers and programs we have.  Zoom has always had this model, with invitations sent to folks who are paid members.  We are sincerely hoping to encourage more members to renew, since they will have access to all our programs and meetings.  The name of this group is FCQG Sugarhouse Club, so when you see this invitation in your Facebook feed, be sure to accept the invite!

Ok -- we acknowledge that some folks are not on Facebook and don't want to be.  At some point, we may be able to put this on YouTube, so you will be able to stream directly without going through Facebook.  We're still working on that!

We welcome your feedback as we work hard to provide you with the best options and opportunities for the coming Guild season!

Piecefully yours,

Laurel Schaap

P.S.  Stay tuned.  If the Covid numbers for the next couple of weeks are really bad, we may need to move to Zoom immediately.  Call me an optimist, but I'm really hoping to get my ice cream in person!
