Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2007


WELCOME:
    63 members present. New Members: Cathy Spencer, Christin Bahn, Ann Jacobs, Roseanne Carroll, Sandy Maynard, Joanne Sweet, Rolande Fortin, Donna Barre and Peggy Burbank.
    Guest: Kathleen Banyer.
    Thank you to Bonnie Evans and everyone who turned out for the Quilt Pink Bee and to Marilynn Jessiman for hosting the October Quilting Bee.

SECRETARY'S REPORT:
 Shireen Melton made a motion to accept; Teela Dufresne seconded.  Motion carried.

TREASURER'S REPORT:  Denise Christiansen made a motion to accept; Bev Cook seconded.  Motion carried.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Card circulated to send to Sue Flanders who has kidney cancer and will be having surgery on October 18th.  Mary Ellen Therrien is down with 2nd tear in ankle tendon.  Both will receive an Orphan Block quilt.   The guild wishes both a very speedy recovery.

OLD BUSINESS:
2008 Charity Quilt:  Sharon collected finished 4- patch units.  She and Denise will meet soon to start working on putting the top together. They still need more 5" squares of cream, ivory or beige fabric.
Breast Cancer Quilts:  Bonnie Evans reported the Quilt Pink event was a huge success.  She still has quilt kits available if anyone else wants one to put together.  If you take a kit, you need only provide batting and backing.  Thank you note from quilt recipient, Billy Tudhope, was read.  Those members who participated in the Quilt Pink Bee did a Show and Tell of the Breast Cancer Survivor Quilts.
Quilt Show:  Sally McIntyre reported she had no additional information.  Lorraine Pike is contacting vendors.
Orphan Block Quilts:  Gerda Thibault has volunteered to keep the box;  Gail Darling and Heather Palow have volunteered to help Gerda.
Quilting Bees: Sally McIntyre will host a quilting bee on November 10th and 11th, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Northwestern Medical Center Conference Center.  Any takers for November or early December?...call Sharon if you want to host a quilting bee.

NEW BUSINESS:

May 2008 Program:  Shireen Melton reported that Deb Tucker overbooked and is not available for May 16-19, 2008.  Bonnie made a motion to reschedule for first weekend in May, seconded by Marge Taylor.  After some discussion, a sheet was provided to vote to reschedule on either the first weekend or the last weekend in May. Bonnie withdrew motion until after break and vote counted.  Tally indicated choice of last weekend in May.  Beth Fancher made a motion to book Deb Tucker for the last weekend in May; Marilynn Jessiman seconded.  Motion carried.

WIP - UFO Challenge:  Be sure to enter your name for each WIP you complete.  For those members who accept the challenge and finish at least 15 WIPs by the June 2008 meeting, they will be entered into a special drawing for a $50.00 gift certificate to winner's choice of fabric shop.  WIPs can be completed anytime during the year.

Ricky Tims' Seminar, Glen Falls, NY, May 1 - 2, 2008. Beth Fancher at Cowles Quilting organizing group trip. Special rate for 10 at $159.00 each at sign-up. Beth needs registration forms & checks by December 20th.

BOM: Marilynn Jessiman needs help making the sample blocks due to her arthritis.  Teela Dufresne volunteered to help.  Twelve BOM blocks were won by Sandra Casavant.

MONTHLY DRAWINGS:  The winners were Rolande Fortin, Gwen Guyette, Heather Palow and Cathy Spencer.

PROGRAM FOR NOVEMBER: Shireen invited Quilters Treasure for a trunk show on November 16th and a class on November 17th.  Class on marbling on fabric will start at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 17th. Fee is $10.00 per person for needed materials.

CHARITY QUILT SHOW & TELL:  The Habitat for Humanity Quilt has been quilting by Cowles Quilting; Shireen Melton made the top. Jennifer Letourneau volunteered to sew the binding.  Teela Dufresne showed several quilts completed for Laurie's House.

SHOW AND TELL:  Lots of beautiful quilts as always.

TONIGHT'S PROGRAM:  Treasure Hunt and Shopping with Kris Driessen. Interesting talk on collecting and uses of "grain bag" and other uses of vintage fabric, circa 1930's.  Kris and her husband brought lots of quilting goodies for guild members' shopping pleasure.
